The Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and
Communications of the Republic of Bulgaria has participated to
projects supported by INTERREG III A (PHARE CBC), presented by
state-owned companies or institutions, which are under the managing
authority of the Ministry. For example: Modernization of the safety
and telecommunication installation of the railway line Blagoevgrad
- Kulata. Total cost of the project: € 4,44 million. Beneficiary:
National Railway Infrastructure Company.
On the other side, the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport,
Information Technology and Communications has experience in
managing of different infrastructure projects financed under PHARE
and ISPA Programmes. These projects include "Construction of a new
bridge over the Danube River at Vidin-Calafat", "Electrification
and upgrading of the Railway line Plovdiv - Svilengrad -
Greek/Turkish Border", "Reconstruction, development and extension
of the Sofia Airport" and others.
Additionally, the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology
and Communications manages a number of large-scaled transport
infrastructure projects, which will be implemented in the scope of
the Operational Programme on Transport 2007-2013. This Programme is
one of the seven operational programmes of the Republic of
Bulgaria, which are financed by the Structural and the Cohesion
Funds of the EU. It has the largest budget among the other
Bulgarian programmes - EUR 2 003 481 163.
The goal of OPT is the development of railway, road and waterway
infrastructure, as well as stimulation of the development of
intermodal transport in accordance with the European Transport
Policy and with the existing requirements concerning the
development of the Trans-European transport network in order to
achieve stability of the Bulgarian transport system."
