SEETAC at 11th Steering Committee Meeting of the Pan-European Corridor X
11th Meeting of the Steering Committee of Pan-European
Corridor X and 8th meeting of the working group for the improvement
of border crossings along the Pan-European Corridor X - Seminar for
the performance of time measurements at border
stations
On the 21st and 22nd of January 2010 the
8th meeting of the working for the improvement of border
crossings along the Pan-European Corridor X and the 11th
Steering Committee Meeting of the Pan-European Corridor X took
place in Belgrade.
On the first day (January 21st, 2010), a seminar for
the performance of time measurements at border stations along the
Pan-European Corridor X took place, which comprises a very
important task undertaken within the activities of the Working
Group for border crossings along Corridor X, for the identification
of the obstacles impeding smooth border crossings and the
proposition of soft measures for the facilitation of passing
traffic. This activity is of high interest for the SEETAC project,
especially in the framework of WP5, which includes the
identification of priority and pilot projects with significant
added value for immediate financing and implementation for the
improvement of transport in South Eastern Europe.
During the works of the Steering Committee (January
22nd, 2010), which was honored by the presence of the
Minister of Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Milutin
Mrkonjić, Mr. Marios Miltiadou, representative of the SEETAC's ERDF
Partner 9 (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) informed the
participants of the countries participating in Corridor X Steering
Committee about the SEETAC project aims and state of the art, as
well as and the future developments and anticipated results. He
also informed the participants about the scope and the content of
the immediately forthcoming ministerial meeting on 3-4 February
2010 in Bucharest.
As far as the Corridor X development is concerned, the Technical
Secretariat of the Steering Committee reports that significant
progress has been made on the Road component, where 74% of the
network (Corridor X Main Axis and four Branches) is constructed
with full motorway profile, while major investments are underway in
Serbia for full motorway construction of Corridor X and the
completion of the Belgrade bypass that together with other motorway
construction projects in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
will increase the percentage of the network to 90% by 2015. On the
contrary, a lot remain to be done on the Rail component of Corridor
X, with limited investments foreseen for the years to come, taking
into account the recent recession of freight traffic, which has
been reduced by 30-40% in the countries along the Corridor X.
From the Steering Committee for Pan-European Corridor X, it is
anticipated that the successful completion the SEETAC project
should in any case be in advantage of transport in the South East
Europe within the evolving framework of the European Transport
Policy and the ongoing review of the TEN-T.
