According to the Transport Ministry, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia will launch the construction of a railroad track leading to the country's border with Bulgaria. All the preliminary researches has been carried out, and the activities will start in 2013. The project is coordinated with the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The rail link reconstruction falls within the priorities emerged during the recent bilateral Transport ministries meeting held in November, with the acknowledge that the lack of a railway connection between Bulgaria and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is the main obstacle for the realization of the Corridor 8.
