General Assembly of the Association KORRIDOR X PLUS
On January 28th 2011, in Vienna, the General Assembly
of the Association KORRIDOR X PLUS took place. This association
consists of the Railway Organizations of Austria, Slovenia,
Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria and aims to the provision of improved
railway services along Pan-European Corridor X. The provision of
improved services and the attraction of traffic go through the
undertaken task of minimization of times required for border
crossings.
The association analyzed the traffic volumes of the past two
years and the required times for border controls and the times that
can be avoided if some soft-measures were implemented. Such
measures could be:
- optimization of border procedures
- intensified use of IT-software-solutions
- technical as well as constructional modernisation
- provision of locomotives in time
- signing of trust agreements
- improved approach when dealing with missing loading
tackles
- trans-national deployment of locomotives
- customs and border controls during train run
M. Miltiadou from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
(SEETAC ERDF PP-9), also member of the Technical Secretariat of the
Steering Committee for Pan-European Corridor X, participated in the
General Assembly and briefly informed the participants about the
content and aim of the SEE Transport Axis Cooperation. Furthermore,
he invited the participants to express possible ideas of pilot
projects for the improvement of the railway product that could be
promoted for implementation in the framework of SEETAC WP5.
The next General Assembly of the Association will be organized
in Belgrade on June 15 this year, on the occasion of the attendance
of the Association's members to the international transport
conference entitled "Railway Investment in South East Europe -
RISEE" on the 14 and 15 June 2011.
